Allergic to Water?!

Can you imagine if every time you took a shower or got caught in the rain you got a horrible headache or broke out in hives?
It may be hard to believe, and even harder to understand, but some people are allergic to water.
One would think that because our bodies are composed mostly of water that someone could not possibly be allergic to it. However, this condition (aquagenic urticaria) is very real and can cause extreme discomfort and even be painful.
So you wonder, "How can people who suffer from this condition eat? How can they drink?" It's possible because the majority of sufferers only have a reaction when their outer skin comes into contact with water… possibly even their own tears, sweat, or saliva.
Unfortunately, until more is known about aquagenic urticaria, sufferers will need to continue to try various therapies to relieve their symptoms… and not go too far without an umbrella.
